Kandiyohi County Food Shelf

WILLMAR — March was Minnesota Food Share month and the Kandiyohi County Food Shelf competed with other food shelf’s in Minnesota for grant dollars. Fundraisers held include:

  • Lakeland Elementary School: The school collected 6,737 food items and $552 in donations. Classes competed against each other for the grand prize of taking a field trip to the food shelf to deliver the food on behalf of the school. The top two classrooms went since they did such great work and had a big job of unloading all that food.
  • Willmar Middle School: The school collected 2,637.6 pounds of food and $1,758.78 in donations. The winning homeroom, Mr. Kuehn's sixth-grade class, delivered the 97 boxes of food to the Kandiyohi County Food Shelf.

Paula Stredde

PENNOCK — A pancake breakfast benefit for Paula Stredde will be from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sunday, May 1, at the Pennock Fire Hall. Stredde is undergoing treatment for a cancerous brain tumor. There will be a silent auction and the event is sponsored by the Pennock Lions Club and Pennock Fire Department.

AAUW book sale

WILLMAR — The Willmar branch of the American Association of University Women annual book sale will be from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday, May 5, 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Friday, May 6, and 9 a.m. to noon Saturday, May 7, at the Willmar Community Center in the Sunshine Room. Donations of books can be dropped off between noon and 4:30 p.m. Wednesday, May 4. Proceeds will be used to fund AAUW’s Ridgewater College scholarships.

Elizabeth Fischer Elfering

LAKE LILLIAN — A pork dinner benefit for Elizabeth Elfering will be from noon to 6 p.m. Saturday, May 14, at the Horseshoe Bar in Lake Lillian. Elfering is undergoing treatment for Hodgkin’s lymphoma. Liz and her husband, Tom, live in Bird Island with their three children. Freewill donation for the pork dinner. There will be a silent auction, and donations for it are being accepted at the bar.

Charity walk/ride/bike

Charity events such as walkathons, runs, motorcycle rides and bicycle rides in the area are listed here, including event details, where it will be held, how to register and fundraising events associated with it.

  • Kandiyohi County Historical Society: May 13-22, I Love Local History virtual 5K run/walk. Registration deadline is May 13 at a cost of $30 for adults, $10 for ages 12 and under. Register on the Kandiyohi County Historical Society website at www.kandiyohicountyhistory.com and click on events. Walk, run, jog, on a treadmill or walking the dog, anywhere in the world, the 3.1 miles and post your pictures on the Kandiyohi County Historical Society's Facebook, Instagram or Twitter page when you are done.
