Kiwanis Touch-A-Life Award

WILLMAR — The Willmar Kiwanis Club is accepting nominations for the 2022 Touch-A-Life Award. The club has recognized a citizen of Kandiyohi County who has an outstanding record of volunteering service to the community each year since 1978.

Typically, the award winner has provided ongoing volunteer service to the community, his or her church, school system, local government or other organizations or programs. The first awardee was Bev Rosenbaum and the most recent three were Dennis Benson, Earl Knutson and Vickie Vogt.

Clara City Lions

CLARA CITY — The Clara City Lions Club will have a brats stand from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 18, at Almich's Market in Clara City. Menu may vary between hamburgers, brats and hotdogs, chips and water. Freewill donation.

Dave Miller

ATWATER — A benefit for Dave Miller and his family will begin at 5:30 p.m. Friday, Aug. 26, at the Atwater Community Center. Miller was in a motorcycle accident caused by a medical emergency. He was still in the hospital when his wife’s grandmother, Bessie Klose, died from a heart attack. As her final gift to them, the family has decided to put her last baked items on the silent auction to help with Miller’s medical expenses. Dinner at 5:30 p.m. for a freewill donation; street dance with Steer Clear performing from 8 to 11:30 p.m., tickets are $5; silent auction from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. with many items along with Bessie’s baking.


Norway Lake Bobbers

WILLMAR — The Norway Lake Bobbers Cancer team will be operating the Cash Wise Brat Stand from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Aug. 26-27 in Willmar. All proceeds will go to the Carris Health Foundation for community cancer support for patients with cancer.

Artists in the Upper Minnesota River Valley are hosting the 18th annual arts crawl known as the Meander, featuring 41 artists throughout the five-county region.

Murphy family

WILLMAR — A carnival and silent auction for the Daren and Whitney Murphy family will be from 2 to 4 p.m. Aug. 27 at Rice Park in Willmar. The Murphys completed state-approved paperwork to adopt infants in the U.S. and were saving to pay for an adoption in the future. An expectant mother in Pennsylvania saw their story and chose them. Because it is an out-of-state adoption, the costs have increased and time is short. There will be family friendly games, face painting, splash pad and cotton candy and popcorn for a freewill donation. An online fundraiser can be found at gofundme.com/f/help-them-bring-baby-home .

PWELC Prairie Stars

SPICER — The annual Music Under the Prairie Stars benefit will begin at 5:30 p.m. Friday, Sept. 9, at Prairie Woods Environmental Learning Center in rural Spicer. Tickets are $75 each for the dinner, live music, “green” silent auction and live “Fund a Need” for “Rebuild & Repair” projects. Free paper shredding

WILLMAR — The annual paper shredding event will be from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday, Sept. 24, at Kensington Bank, 2800 First St. S. in Willmar. The cost to have documents shredded is a donation to the Willmar Area Food Shelf.

Kandiyohi County Food Shelf

WILLMAR — The Kandiyohi County Food Shelf helps people living in Kandiyohi County who are in need of food assistance. It is located at 624 Pacific Ave. SW in Willmar.

Curbside pickup: Monday, Tuesday and Thursday, 8 a.m. to 3:45 p.m.; Friday, 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Stop by the stop sign at the front door and call 320-235-2641 .

In-person pickup: Monday, Tuesday and Thursday, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.; Friday, 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.. Park across the street or in the parking lot and bring your own bags/boxes.

NAPS distribution: Fourth Tuesday of each month, 1 to 2 p.m., Nutrition Assistance Program for Seniors for individuals 60 years of age and older that qualify by income with Second Harvest Heartland. Call 800-365-0270 to sign up.
