Easton Rood

NEW LONDON — A benefit for Easton Rood will be from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 12, at the American Legion in New London. The son of Casey and Nicole (Olson) Rood of Belgrade was diagnosed with hepatoblastoma, a rare liver cancer, in August of 2019, at the age of 2½. He has undergone chemotherapy treatments at Children’s Hospital in Minneapolis and received a liver transplant at Mayo on Dec. 27. He recently had a cancerous tumor removed from his lung and is undergoing chemo at Mayo. He has one brother, Caleb, 7, who is staying with family members.

Chicken dinner, silent auction and bake sale from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., live auction at 2 p.m. and meat raffle at 4 p.m. Donations may also be sent to Easton Rood benefit fund, United Minnesota Bank, 105 Central Ave. E., New London, MN 56273.

Ryan Clarke Scholarship

NEW LONDON — A fundraiser for the Ryan Clarke Scholarship fund will be from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 19, at the American Legion in New London. Charity walk/ride/bike

Charity events such as walkathons, runs, motorcycle rides and bicycle rides in the area will be listed in this calendar, including event details, where it will be held, how to register and fundraising events associated with it.

L SP Prairie Pothole Bike Tour: Aug. 29, 9 a.m., starting at Monson Lake State Park, Sunburg, 45 miles. Join the Land Stewardship Project’s Robin Moore and Terry VanDerPol for a curated tour complete with local parks, a large native prairie preserve, and insights into how land management affects the region.

The tour also can be joined at Swift Falls around 10:30 a.m., Terrace Mill around noon, at the Ordway Prairie at 1 p.m. (on or off your bike) and will finish back at Monson Lake State Park around 3 p.m. to 4 p.m.

National Alliance on Mental Illness: Sept. 26, 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. NAMIWalks Minnesota’s DIT (Do It Together) virtual walk will combine virtual “socially distanced” components with “real life” safe-distance celebrations. Habitat for Humanity

WILLMAR — Habitat for Humanity of West Central Minnesota ReStore is accepting donations of building materials, large appliances, furniture and more. All donations must be approved by staff before acceptance. Donations can be brought to 2424 First St. S. in Willmar between 11 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. Tuesday through Friday, and 11 a.m. and 3 p.m. Saturday.
