Willmar Area Community Foundation
WILLMAR — The Willmar Area Community Foundation has opened its annual grant round to fund programs that focus this year on three different areas: addressing the achievement gap for youth, increasing community connections and welcoming diverse populations, and supporting productive aging.
Eligible organizations must be a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization, school or government entity that serves residents of Kandiyohi County. For additional information and the online application, visit www.communitygiving.org/grants and select “WACF General Grants.” The deadline is Jan. 15.
The Foundation continues its work to target projects and programs that support the “Opportunity Gap” movement. It refers to the vast and growing differences in opportunities available to children and families nationwide described by Dr. Robert Putnam in his bestselling book “Our Kids: the American Dream in Crisis.”
Blue Star Mothers
WILLMAR — Blue Star Mothers Willmar Chapter 1 meets on the third Thursday of each month at the Willmar Army Reserve. The parents of military meet for support and to pack boxes to send to deployed troops. They are collecting snacks, hygiene products, paperback novels and notes to be included in the packages. Donation boxes are available at Heritage Bank and the Willmar Army Reserve. If you would like the group to include someone you know who is deployed, send the name and address to Blue Star Mothers, Box 206, Pennock, MN 56279, along with your contact phone number.
E-quip Africa
WILLMAR — E-quip Africa in Willmar is accepting newer, smaller computers such as laptops and slim or compact desktops which are easier to ship. All computers need their original power supplies, cords, keyboards and mice and be in good working condition. They need to be Windows machines running Windows 7, 8.1 or 10. Call 320-894-1680 for more information or how to donate equipment. A $25 cash donation is suggested which will help us ship the computers to West African schools.

Habitat for Humanity
WILLMAR — Habitat for Humanity of West Central Minnesota ReStore is accepting donations of building materials, large appliances, furniture and more. All donations must be approved by staff before acceptance. Donations can be brought to 2424 First Street South in Willmar between 11 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. Tuesday through Friday, and 11 a.m. and 3 p.m. Saturday.
