Free paper shredding
WILLMAR — A paper shredding event will be from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, June 4, in the Peterson Brothers Funeral Home parking lot in Willmar. The cost to have documents shredded is a donation to the Willmar Area Food Shelf. The Boy Scouts will help carry your boxes (limit two per household) and also will collect old, tattered American flags for proper disposal. The Lions will be there collecting old eye glasses, hearing aids and shoes to be distributed to low-income countries.
St. John’s Roadrunners
WILLMAR — The St. Johns Roadrunners 4-H Cub will be operating the Cash Wise Brat Stand in Willmar from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. June 10-11. The funds raised will be used to support Community Pride activities including the seven Little Free Libraries that the club stewards weekly in the Willmar community.
Link Rib Fest
NEW LONDON — The eighth annual “Smokin' for The Link" Rib Fest fundraiser will be from 2 to 5 p.m. Saturday, June 11, in New London's city parking lot across from the American Legion. Tickets are $25 for five samples and one piece of pie. VIP tickets (designed for two people) are $100 and include rib samples from each rib team, two pieces of pie and two beverages.
CenterPoint Energy
WILLLMAR — CenterPoint Energy has provided a $100,000 grant to ServeMinnesota to support Reading Corps tutors in nine communities in the state including Willmar and Paynesville. A total of 210 students are expected to benefit across the nine communities, with 11,550 sessions and 3,780 hours of tutoring. Through Reading Corps, trained AmeriCorps members are placed in schools to serve as reading tutors who provide daily, one-on-one or small group literacy instruction to students who are not reading at grade level.
