Charity events such as walkathons, runs, motorcycle rides and bicycle rides in the area are listed here, including event details, where it will be held, how to register and fundraising events associated with it.
Walk, Run & Wag 5K: July 20, 6 p.m., Lions Park and Willmar Dog Park, Willmar. Check-in and registration at 5:30 p.m., walk at 6 p.m. The Willmar Noon Lions Club host the third annual family-friendly fundraiser for all ages and their canine companions. Choose to walk, run or wag for 3.24 miles or do a shorter alternative route. Ages 18 and older for $20, immediate family max of $40. St. Johns Roadrunners
WILLMAR — The St. Johns Roadrunners 4-H Club will be operating the Cash Wise brat stand in Willmar from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. July 22. The funds raised will be used to support Community Pride activities including the seven Little Free Libraries the club stewards weekly in the Willmar community.
DAWSON — A barbecue meal benefit for Alvin Wieber will begin at 4 p.m. Saturday, July 23, at Lac qui Parle County Park, 2299 337th Avenue, northeast of Dawson. Wieber has been diagnosed with aggressive stage four B-cell lymphoma cancer. There will be live music, a silent auction and freewill donation for the meal. Bring your own lawn chairs.
MNyou Youth Garden
WILLMAR — MNyou Youth Garden, which trains youth in small-scale agriculture practices and donates half of the vegetables grown in a community-supported agriculture initiative, had storm damage in May at its vegetable farm just north of Willmar and is fundraising to replace hoophouses. Through a Willmar Area Community Foundation donor-advised fund, MNyou will receive a matching grant of $12,500 for every dollar donated. Donations may be made at givemn.org/story/Mnyourebuild through the GiveMN website, which connects people with nonprofits and schools raising money.
