Clara City Lions

CLARA CITY — The Clara City Lions Club will be having a brats stand from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Thursday, May 19, at Almich's Market. Menu may vary between hamburgers, hot dogs or brats with chips and water. Freewill donation.

Free paper shredding

WILLMAR — A paper shredding event will be from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, June 4, in the Peterson Brothers Funeral Home parking lot in Willmar. The cost to have documents shredded is a donation to the Willmar Area Food Shelf. The Boy Scouts will help carry your boxes (limit two per household) and also will collect old, tattered American flags for proper disposal. The Lions will be there collecting old eye glasses, hearing aids and shoes to be distributed to low-income countries.

Dollar General

GOODLETTSVILLE, Tennessee — The Dollar General Literacy Foundation recently awarded $252,000 in literacy grants to Minnesota nonprofit organizations, libraries and schools to support adult, family and summer literacy programs. Receiving a grant in the West Central Tribune area was:

  • Appleton: Lac qui Parle Valley School District's Appleton-Milan Elementary School, $1,750.
