SPICER — Green Lake Lutheran Ministries has announced the cancellation of its summer programming at the Green Lake Bible Camp, Shores of St. Andrew Bible Camp and Camp House, along with congregational day camps from June through August.
"It's hard to put into words how much we will miss all the energy and joy at our three sites this summer. There is great sadness in this decision," the staff and board of directors said in a news release.
The decision was made because of COVID-19 and with guidance from the state, Centers for Disease Control, local health officials and the American Camping Association. The release said it was made clear that canceling the programming was the most faithful course of action.
"While our mission will always include vibrant, in-person summer camp programming, adapting to new circumstances has become a necessary part of our work during these difficult times," the release said.
Green Lake Lutheran Ministries' retreat ministry has been closed since late-March. The ministry is now offering limited space for groups of 10 or less and are closely monitoring when the next phase of operations can go into effect.

The organization has been working on alternative ways it can fulfill its mission, including ways people can engage their faith at home, virtually and through innovating new camp connections. Information can be found on the website www.gllm.org .
"While this is no substitute for spending a life-changing week in community at camp, we know that God is with us as we try new things, being the church in new and bold ways," the release said.
