A Minnesota Army National Guard unit based at the armory in Willmar will be deployed to Kuwait later this year.
About 150 members of the 682nd Engineer Battalion will be activated Oct. 8 in a ceremony in Willmar. They will leave a couple days later for 45 days of training at Fort Bliss, Texas, before going to Kuwait.
The Headquarters Company and the Forward Support Company are included in the nine-month deployment.
The Willmar community is invited to participate in the group’s sendoff.
At 9 a.m. Oct. 8, a convoy led by Willmar Police and Willmar Fire departments and the Patriot Guard will move slowly from the National Guard armory north along Business Highway 71 to the Flags of Honor and then south through the city on First Street. The convoy will turn near Home Depot and go to Willmar Senior High.
The ceremony will take place in the high school gym, and the community is invited to attend.
