WILLMAR - The Willmar Kiwanis Club last week presented its 41st annual Touch-A-Life Award to Dennis Benson.

Benson was planning to attend the Oct. 18 event and volunteer to take pictures only to find himself being the guest of honor and his entire family in attendance.

His camera may appear to be another appendage outside of his two arms as he never leaves home without his camera. He can be found photographing events such as parades, sporting events or concerts.

Benson has a passionate love of the arts and is involved in several arts organizations throughout the Willmar community.

He conducts and/or plays instruments at Refuge Church, with the Prairie Winds Concert Band and the Willmar Area Symphonic Orchestra and in musicals at the Barn Theatre.

He judges Kandiyohi County Fair talents as well as middle school performances, archiving the various events for generations to review for years to come.

He also is a web designer.

Benson has always been a family man. He prides himself in being able to share his talents with those around him, doing so out of the goodness of his heart with no thanks expected in return.

Dennis and his wife, Darlene, live in Willmar and have three grown children: Heidi, Mark and Brian.

The Willmar Kiwanis "Touch a Life" Award has been honoring citizens since 1978, given each year to a resident of Kandiyohi County for donating time, talent, ability and service as a volunteer to the community, above and beyond the ordinary.
