Donald F. Engleson, 86 of Detroit Lakes, MN, died Sunday, February 23, 2014 at Oak Crossing in Detroit Lakes. There will be a graveside service including Military Honors at 9:30 AM Friday, May 2, 2014 at Bakke Lutheran Cemetery in rural Detroit Lakes. A Memorial Service will follow at 10:00 AM at Bakke Lutheran Church, Reverend Ann Newgard-Larson, officiating.

Donald Florian Engleson was born September 1, 1927 in Milan, Minnesota to Edward and Ales (Torgeson) Engleson. He was raised in Rochert, MN and is a 1945 graduate of Frazee High School. Don served with the U. S. Army during WWII. Following his discharge, he returned to Rochert where he lived for a brief time prior to moving to Alaska. He later moved to Hibbing, MN where he married Darlene Bertilson July 19, 1952. While in Hibbing, he drove a Euclid for Hanna Mining Co. They moved to Park Rapids, MN where he worked as a carpenter. They moved to Salem, OR, Mesa, AZ and then to Detroit Lakes.

Don enjoyed hunting, fishing, trapping, playing guitar, especially with The Old Time Country Bunch at many area nursing homes, making knives, reading and reloading bullets.

Survivors include his wife, Dorene of Detroit Lakes, four children: Gary (Joen) of Snoqualmie, WA, Bradley (Terri) of Henderson, TN, Dawna Engleson of Salem, OR and Kathryn (Bruce) Miller of Salem, OR, 14 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren, one brother: Roger (Becky) of Fergus Falls, MN, one sister: Lois Freithem of Spokane, WA. "Son from Belgium" Romain VanSteirtegem of Wetteren, Belgium. He was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Jayme, his parents, two sisters, Marjorie and Anita and a brother, Floyd. David-Donehower Funeral Home is serving the family.
