Duane D. Flagstad Feb. 26, 1937 - Feb. 23, 2009

ALEXANDRIA -- Duane David Flagstad, 71, of Alexandria died Monday at the St. Cloud Hospital.

The service will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Calvary Lutheran Church in Alexandria.

Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Anderson Funeral Home in Alexandria and for one hour prior to the service at the church.

Memorials are preferred to Second Harvest Heartland food shelf or to the American Cancer Society.

He was born Feb. 26, 1937, near Wyndmere, N.D., to Alfred and Alpha Flagstad. He was raised on the family farm north of Wyndmere, N.D. He attended Concordia College in Moorhead, graduating in 1959 with degrees in business education and psychology. He later received a master's degree in public school administration from North Dakota State University. He taught high school business education in Evansville and Detroit Lakes and was the high school principal in Welcome and Belgrade. He retired to Park Rapids in 1996 and moved to Alexandria in 2006.

He is survived by his wife: Jeanne; children: Brian (and Kim) of Hinckley and Lynn (and Amy Finken) of St Paul; four grandchildren; siblings: LeRoy (and Val) of Rapid City, S.D., Gary of Wyndmere, N.D., and Shirley Skoglund of Lake Norden, S.D.
