WILLMAR - The holidays arrived early at Jennie-O Turkey Store, where more than $10.7 million was distributed to employees Tuesday as a discretionary bonus based on the company’s

strong performance this past year. This amount equals an average bonus of over $1,750 per eligible employee, with newly hired employees receiving $600.

“Our team turned in another year of strong performance within our industry and within Hormel Foods Corporation, our parent company, despite some challenges such as high propane costs last winter,” said Glenn R. Leitch, president. “Our team members work hard to do their best every day to control costs, find ways to continuously improve, and keep food safety and people safety at the forefront. We are proud to be able to make this discretionary bonus payment.”

Those eligible for the bonus include approximately 6,000 hourly and farm employees across all of the company’s operations in Minnesota and Wisconsin who were employed when the company’s most recent fiscal year ended on October and when the checks were distributed Tuesday.

Hormel Foods and its subsidiaries traditionally share success with employees through programs such as profit sharing, discretionary bonus awards and other performance bonuses, which are based on the company’s performance.
