ATWATER — Led by Zeke Sather and Darius Fenske, the Lac qui Parle Valley/Dawson-Boyd boys cross-country team placed fifth during the Class A TCRC Cross-Country Showcase on Saturday from the Island Pine Golf Club.
LQPV/D-B earned a team score of 134, two points behind fourth-place Lake City.
With its runners completing the race with an average time of 17 minutes, 25 seconds, Nova Classical Academy captured the event with a team score of 78. Greenway/Nashwauk-Keewatin was second (91) and Minnehaha Academy was third (91).
Earning 21st in individual competition, Sather crossed the finish line in 17:21.3. Fenske took 22nd with a time of 17:25.4. Also for LQPV/D-B, Hunter Martinson (18:13.9), Kaiden Allpress (18:14.5), and Mason Brehmer (18:17.1) placed in 54th, 56th and 59th, respectively.
Elsewhere, New London-Spicer’s Ty Bisek secured 39th with a time of 17:54.3

Staples-Motley’s Emmet Anderson won the meet after posting a time of 16:02.2.
The invitation-only event included most of the state’s top high school teams and runners whose seasons wrapped up the previous weekend after section championships. The large school event was Friday.
