A Minnesota Supreme Court public waters ruling issued Sept. 28 means an environmental assessment must be conducted before a proposed drainage project into the upper reaches of Limbo Creek can be approved.
The Minnesota Supreme Court affirmed a Minnesota Court of Appeals decision that the upper reaches of Limbo Creek in Renville County is a public water, and an environmental assessment is required before a proposed drainage project can be considered.
Current guidelines make it rare for media to bring recording equipment into courtrooms. Representatives from media organizations and other groups presented their cases before the high court justices after a court panel presented a report recommending the state not drastically expand camera access.

One of Sen. Torrey Westrom's opponents in the race for the new Senate District 12, Ashley Klingbeil of Alexandria, filed a petition with the Minnesota Supreme Court, asking the court to remove Westrom's name from the Nov. 8 ballot. The court ruled victims' records are protected under state law, even in criminal cases where a judge can review records privately to determine if they are relevant to a case.
