WILLMAR— The Ridgewater men’s basketball team improved to 2-1 Tuesday night with an 87-54 win over Association Free Lutheran Bible College & Seminary.

Sam Olson, a sophomore from Rocori, had 21 points to lead the Warriors. Travis Visser, a sophomore from Hinckley-Finlayson, contributed 18 points and 23 rebounds.

Ridgewater led 42-25 at halftime. The Warriors play the Mayville State JV at 8 p.m. Thursday in Mayville, North Dakota.

The Association Free Lutheran Bible College & Seminary Conquerors of Plymouth were led by Micah Moan’s 18 points.

Ridgewater 65, AFLBS 56



Outscoring its opponent 38-24 in the second half, Ridgewater collected its first victory of the 2019-20 campaign following a 65-56 win over Association Free Lutheran Bible School of Plymonth in its home opener Tuesday.

The Warriors trailed 32-27 at halftime before the two teams were tied 47-47 at the end of the third quarter. From there, the home team pulled away, holding the visitors to 2-for-11 shooting during the final period. Making half of its shots from the field (7 of 14), Ridgewater doubled up AFLBS on the scoreboard by 18-9 margin in the fourth.

Freshman guard Sarah Ibarra had an all-around solid game for the victors, putting up team-highs with 21 points, eight rebounds and five steals. She was also 7-for-7 from the free-throw line. Freshman post Kaitlyn Rindfleisch added 15 points and seven rebounds (five offensive) while sophomore guard Kendra Kuczek chipped in 12 points, four steals and a team-high four assists.

Sinking her team’s only makes from long distance, Madison Trussoni paced AFLBS with 17 points.

After the home victory, Ridgewater will next play on the road against the Mayville JV at 6 p.m. Thursday from Mayville, N.D..
