SPICER - “Adirondack Chairs Gone Wild” kicks off Friday, when 15 area artists will be given a chair during a free public reception scheduled from 5 to 6:30 p.m. at Dethlefs Center in Spicer.
The artists will spend the next two months transforming, painting and decorating the chairs into a functional piece of art. The following artists have been selected for the project:
Ron Adams, Willmar
Kristin Allen, New London
Donna Jean Carver, Willmar
Violet Dauk, New London
Victoria Holm, New London
Karen Kosmos, Spicer
Terry Lewison, Spicer
Tracey Lynn, Litchfield
Suzanne Napgezek, Willmar

The artists were selected after submitting previous works to a three-person jury made up of art teachers.
Their chairs will be revealed during a May 22 community event at the Spicer downtown park, where the public can vote for their favorite design. A $100 cash prize will be awarded to the peoples’ choice winner.
The project is part of a series of “wild” summer events in Spicer, including “fish gone wild,” which had artists transforming wooden fish silhouettes, and “poles gone wild,” where artists painted utility poles around the city.
“Our goal is to bring beauty into the community and create good community spirit,” said Mary Wohnoutka, a member of Spicer’s beautification committee.
The chairs will be auctioned off Aug. 15 at the Glacial Ridge Winery, located at 15455 County Road 131 in Spicer.
Each artist will receive 90 percent of the auction proceeds.
