Milan Village Arts

Milan Village Arts has scheduled a number of classes. The complete schedule is on the website. Members receive a discount on tuition. Supply fees are paid to the instructor at the end of class. Upcoming classes listed by their registration deadlines are:

Sketching life figures: Sept. 14-15, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.; instructor Katia Andreeva; beginner and above; learn to draw and paint the human figure using pencil and watercolor paint in order to quickly capture form; tuition $140, supply list provided on registration, registration deadline Aug. 31.

Sami-inspired embroidery jewelry: Sept. 28-29, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.; instructor Norma Refsal; beginner and above; apply pewter thread to either a wool or leather background; very close hand work, if you need extra magnification, you will need to bring your own; tuition $155, supplies $55; registration deadline Sept. 14.
Creating useful objects in bone, antler and cow horn: Sept. 27-29, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday and Saturday, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday; instructor Harley Refsal; beginner and above; tuition $180; supplies $30 and up; registration deadline Sept. 14.
Rosemaling a welcome sign: Oct. 12, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.; instructor Clarice Dieter; beginner and above; make a plaque with either Velkommen or Welcome; tuition $55; registration deadline Sept. 15.

Wood bowl turning: Oct. 26-27, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.; instructor Steve Mullins; beginner and above, learn the basic skills needed to turn a wooden bowl from “green” unseasoned wood; tuition $230, supplies $45; registration deadline Oct. 12.

Open carving night: Carvers of all persuasions are invited to meet from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. on the first Tuesday of each month at the school to carve and network. Free.


Silver Studio: open to all those that have taken beginning silversmithing and are MVAS members. Fee is $10 for evening and $20 for all day.

Weaving Studio: open to those with experience with looms or have taken the weaving rugs class and are MVAS members; by appointment or join a weaving group, no fee, looms are maintained with warp at no cost.

Framing Studio: a fully-functional framing workshop open to those taken the framing workshop and are MVAS members; $5 hour, $10 for half day, $20 full day, by appointment only.
