Sunburg Heritage Arts Initiative

The Sunburg Heritage Arts Initiative has several workshops scheduled.

Introduction to Hardanger Embroidery: Jan. 4, 11, 18 and 25, 2 to 3:30 p.m., Sunburg Community Center; free, students ages 18 and over. Students will learn some of the basic stitches of Hardanger embroidery, a traditional Norwegian handcraft, by completing a small coaster. People with more experience in Hardanger are invited to join the group to work on their projects and share their experience. To register, call Darlene at 320-599-4700.

Willmar Community Center

Curbside Crafts: These kits are great activities to do with all ages and skill sets. Kits will be available to pick up on Thursdays in December. Dec. 2, Candy Cane Rudolph; Dec. 9, Snowman Wood Ornament; Dec. 16, Festive Cookie Decorating and Dec. 23, Santa Candy Sleigh. Be sure to reserve your craft kits by calling 263-5288, supplies will be limited; $12 for all four kits or $3 per kit, $5 for cookie kit..

Square Dance Lessons

The Jolly Twirlers Square Dance Club will be teaching the art of square dancing to singles and couples of all ages. The lessons are from 6:30 to 9 p.m. Thursdays, at the Willmar Community Center, The Jolly Twirlers dancers serve as mentors for new dancers learning the different square dance “calls.” Adults $3 per lesson, students ages 16 and under are $1.50.

Willmar Community Education

Willmar Community Education has several art-related classes scheduled. Pre-registration is required for all the classes. Cooking classes are in the Food and Drink calendar in the Thursday paper.

Rock painting: Have you found any painted rocks outside around Willmar? Learn how to create your own! Paints, brushes and rocks will be provided for each class. The classes are from 10:30 a.m. to noon, Saturdays, at Jefferson Learning Center, ages 5 and up; those ages 5-11 will need to sign up with a responsible adult; $5 first person, $3 for each additional family member; instructor Sarah Miller. There are two remaining classes scheduled for this fall. They are:

Rock painting gnomes: Dec. 11, step-by-step instructions to paint your very own gnomes. In addition to the basic instructions, you'll learn some simple variations to make your gnome unique for any personality or holiday.

Milan Village Arts

Milan Village Arts classes have been scheduled for the next year. The complete schedule is on the website. Members receive a discount on tuition. Supply fees are paid to the instructor at the end of class. Precious metal clay: Jan. 8, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.; instructor Kim Bakken-Parr; adults and teens, beginners and above; learn the basics of working with precious metal clay and how easy it is to design and create beautiful silver earrings, pendants, charms and even how to set stones; tuition $105, supplies $65; registration deadline Dec. 25.

PMC Nature’s Beauty: Jan. 9, 9 a.m.to 4 p.m.; instructor Kim Bakken-Parr; adults and teens, beginners and above; coat leaves, twigs, seed pods, etc. with silver paste, which will be dried and kiln-fired, to a piece that is 99.9% silver; tuition $105, supplies $70; registration deadline Dec. 25.
