Willmar Community Education has several art-related classes scheduled. Preregistration is required for all the classes. Cooking classes are in the Food and Drink calendar in the Thursday paper.
Nature Kid Art Club: three separate sessions, 1:30 to 3 p.m., grades K-5, instructor Libbie Anderson. Join us doing art outdoors. We will work on a different project each month using objects from nature and different art mediums. Expand your love of nature and art at the same time. Spotlight Theatre Workshops: June 27 through July 2, instructor Nikki Erickson, Barn Theatre, adaptation of the classic tale “Sleeping Beauty, A New Musical.” Several different classes will be offered during the week. Tickets for performances will be open to the community.
- The magic of stories: Sleeping Beauty and the Stage: ages 3-8, July 1, 2:30 to 3:30 p.m., free, pre-registration required at https://tce.me/i0cXxU , participants will meet in The Barn Theatre lobby with director, Nikki Bettcher Erickson, to talk about storytelling, the power of words and the magic of theater. An actor from the play will then read a special story. At 3 p.m. participants will see a fully staged, final dress rehearsal of our new musical, Sleeping Beauty.
Musical Theatre Workshop: Encanto: July 18-20, grades 1-5 and adults, $40, Roosevelt Elementary School, instructor Nikki Erickson. Everyone’s favorite new kids’ movie has some pretty awesome music. We will work on our musical theater singing, movement, and acting skills. There will be a short and casual showing of songs learned at the end of the week. Milan Village Arts

Acanthus carving: Aug. 8-12, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.; instructor Jock Holmen; beginner and above; learn to carve elegant, ornate leaf designs in wood; tuition $325, plus supplies; registration deadline July 23.
Silversmithing 1, 2-day: Sept. 10-11, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.; instructor Marilyn Hanson; beginner, no experience necessary, minimum age 16; learn the basics, including how to solder and how to use most of the tools; tuition $145, supplies $80 to $110 depending on market price and $5 acetylene fee; no outside silver; Silver studio is available to those completing this class; registration deadline July 30.

Learn to keep your edge: Aug. 20, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.; instructor Fred Livesay; beginners and above, minimum age 15; discuss edge geometry, sharpening stone types, technique and edge triage and how to deal with it. Bring your kitchen knives, pruners, plane and even mower blades for lots of hands-on opportunities; tuition $95; registration deadline Aug. 6.
