Willmar Community Center

Classes scheduled at the Willmar Community Center. To register, call 320-262-5288 or visit

Art for all, beginners: Nov. 3 or Nov. 10, 1 or 5 p.m., $2, youth and adults, pre-registration required, create a group color geometric art piece.

Theater boot camp: Nov. 4-6, $8. Learn and enjoy this fun theater camp as we put on a show in just three short days; Nov. 4, 4:30 to 7:30 p.m., Nov. 5, 1 to 5 p.m., Nov. 6, 2 to 4 p.m.

Santa’s Ornament: Nov. 10, 9:30 to 11 a.m., $8; decorate and paint on this homemade Kraft Koop clay ornament.

Little Art Session: Nov. 14, 4 to 6 p.m., free, Create art to be on display in our community art galleries in December which will be holidays and winter scenes.


Community crafts: Nov. 15, 2:30 p.m., $12, all ages, pre-registration required; make “Cozy Wall Decor,” so soft to touch, your walls will love.

Square dance lessons

The Jolly Twirlers Square Dance Club will be teaching the art of square dancing to singles and couples of all ages. The lessons are from 6:30 to 9 p.m. Tuesdays Nov. 15, 22 and 29, at the Willmar Community Center. The Jolly Twirlers dancers serve as mentors for new dancers learning the different square dance “calls.” Adults $5 per lesson, students $3. Willmar Community Education

Willmar Community Education has several art-related classes scheduled. Pre-registration is required for all the classes. Cooking classes are in the Food and Drink calendar in the Thursday paper.

Rock painting: Have you found any painted rocks outside around Willmar? Learn how to create your own! Paints, brushes and rocks will be provided for each class. The classes are from 10:30 a.m. to noon, Saturdays, at Jefferson Learning Center, ages 5 and up; those ages 5-11 will need to sign up with a responsible adult; $5 first person, $3 for each additional family member; instructor Sarah Miller. There are two remaining classes scheduled for this fall. They are:

  • Holiday Wreaths: Nov. 12, celebrate the holidays with festive wreath rocks. The wreaths are painted directly on the rock and make cute decorations or gifts. We'll be focusing on Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year’s wreaths.
  • Mandala dotting: Dec. 10, try your hand at mandala dotting. We'll talk about common household items you can use to start mandala dotting and create beautiful designs in class.

Milan Village Arts

Milan Village Arts classes have been scheduled with the complete schedule on the website. Members receive a discount on tuition. Supply fees are paid to the instructor at the end of class. Holiday cookie sampler: Dec. 3, 1 to 5 p.m., instructor Maureen Hark; beginner and above; ages 12 and under must be accompanied by a parent; class will divide into 4 groups and each group will make a different cookie that will be shared at the end of the class – everyone going home with a delicious sampling of cookies to make for the Holidays. Krumkake filled with Cloudberry Cream, Sandbakkels with Fresh Fruit, Almond Biscotti Drizzled with Chocolate and Pecan Shortbread. The instructor will let you know ahead of time what to bring to class. Tuition $70 supplies included; registration deadline Nov. 12.

Norwegian knife making, beginning: Jan. 13-15, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday and Saturday, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sunday; instructor Jon Roisen, minimum age 15; make a “tollekniv,” a Norwegian work knife and leather sheath; tuition $160, supplies $95; registration deadline Dec. 24.

Norwegian knife making, five-day workshop: Jan. 20-24, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.; instructor Jon Roisen; beginner to experienced, minimum age 15; hone your skills using more advanced techniques, make either a Telemark-style knife or a knife consisting of multiple traditional materials used in Nordic blades; tuition $245, supplies $120; registration deadline Jan. 1.


Watercolor techniques: Jan. 28-29, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.; instructor Katia Andreeva; beginner and above, minimum age 14; designed for beginners and intermediate students to learn how to paint still life; tuition $140, supply list provided on registration; registration deadline Jan. 7.
