The 39th annual Prairie Pothole Day is set for 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 10, near New London.

The outdoor celebration includes dog trials, black powder shoot, archery competition, slough scoot, walk in the woods, kids’ activities, food, raffle, duck calling contest, goose calling contest and more. Admission is free.

It is held at Stoney Ridge Farm, near the intersection of State Highway 9 and U.S. Highway 71 north of Sibley State Park, and hosted by the Prairie Pothole Conservation Association, a new 501(c)3 nonprofit organization. The proceeds from various raffles fund local conservation projects and programs.

Over the last 38 years, the event has grown to where an estimated 4,000 patrons may descend on the farmstead to play games, learn about the environment, and maybe win a raffle prize or two if they are lucky.
