WILLMAR - Ridgewater College’s Theatre Department presents “Urinetown: The Musical” at 7:30 p.m. today through Saturday in the Fine Arts Theatre on the Willmar campus.
Tickets are $5 general admission and are available by calling 320-222-7605 or at the box office before the show.
“Urinetown,” the recipient of three Tony Awards including “Best Musical,” tells the tale of a town plagued by a 20-year drought, where water has become so scarce that private toilets have become unthinkable.
The town’s main corporation, Urine Good Company controls all of the city’s restrooms and begins to charge the people of the town to use the bathroom, and continues to raise the price for the citizens to carry out their most private and basic of needs.
As the people of the town get more and more edgy, a hero emerges to help save the people of the town from all of their wrongs. However, will it be enough to save their lives?
“Urinetown” is a political and social satire that tells the story of this town by using the musical styles of such shows as “Les Misérables,” “West Side Story” and more. “Hilariously funny and touchingly honest, ‘Urinetown’ provides a fresh perspective of one of America’s greatest art forms.”
The show has a large cast with 23 actors.
