Spicer

WinterFest 2009 activities this week include the Polar Bear Plunge at 2 p.m. Saturday on Green Lake in Spicer and the Sons of the American Legion omelet breakfast from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sunday at the American Legion in Spicer.

Prairie Woods ELC

The cross country ski trails are open from 8 a.m. to sunset. Rental skis are available for $12 a day for non-members. Call 354-5894 for more information.

Sibley State Park

Interpretive Center open during the week; call 320-354-2002 for hours.

Sibley State park programs are on the weekends at the Interpretive Center and are led by the park naturalist or visiting expert. A vehicle permit is required to enter the park and they are available at the park office. For more information call 320-354-2002.

Winter trails: Nordic skiing and snowmobile trails are groomed, weather permitting. The trail center in the lower level of the Interpretive Center is open 24 hours a day. There is a warming room, bathrooms and water fountain. A cross country ski pass is required for age 16 and older.

Snowshoe hike: 2 p.m. Saturday, weather permitting; following a brief talk on snowshoe design, manufacture styles and use, a naturalist will lead a walk. Snowshoes will be provided to the first 20 people, 12 years of age and older, who call for reservations at 320-354-2055.

Cross country ski trail grooming equipment display: 1 to 3 p.m. Sunday; a Sibley State Park employee will answer questions about the ski trail grooming equipment which will be on display and the technique involved in grooming trails.

Willmar Junior High

Open swimming: 7 to 9 p.m. Friday; $2 per person, enter through east locker room doors.

Willmar Civic Center

Skating will be either in the Civic Center or the Blue Line Arena; $2 for all ages; $1.50 skate rental, unless otherwise stated.

Open skating: 7:30 to 9 p.m. Sunday

Leisure time hockey, adults only: 8:30 to 10 p.m. Sunday

Open curling, age 8 and older: 5 to 9 p.m. Saturday; stones and brooms provided.

A/B Squirts youth tournament, Saturday and Sunday

Outdoor skating rinks

Warming houses: Garfield, Lincoln, Hilltop and Northside, open and staffed, at 4 p.m. school days, 1 p.m. weekends and school holidays; close at 9 p.m. nightly.
