Historic Salem Church

PAYNESVILLE — The 52nd annual Salemfest begins with a potluck picnic at 12:30 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 8. Bring food to share; all plates, cups, utensils and beverages will be provided. Program at 2 p.m. featuring Bonse Aba, a men's quartet from Paynesville Lutheran Church.

The 100th birthday of three former Salem church members will be celebrated: Dr. Lowell Gess, Vernice Heitke Evans and Vivian Heitke. Each of them lived in the Salem community at one time, and attended the Salem Church before moving away. Birthday cake and ice cream will be served after the program in honor of the centenarians.

The church is located north of Paynesville at 28547 220th Street.

Litchfield Area Christian Women

LITCHFIELD — The Litchfield Area Christian Women will have a “Flowers, Flowers, Flowers” brunch at 9:30 a.m. Aug. 13 at First Lutheran Church in Litchfield. Rita Weber of Sioux Falls, South Dakota, will share her story about how she took advantage of adversity and discovered God’s plan for her life. Tickets are $5. St. John Lutheran

ATWATER — St. John Lutheran Church will celebrate its 150th anniversary on Sunday, Aug. 15, at the church north of Atwater. Following a pulled pork lunch, there will be a short program at 1 p.m. with the Rev. Dr. Lucas Woodford, president of the Minnesota South District of the Lutheran Church — Missouri Synod, speaking. There will be time for socializing to follow.


One Way Festival

WILLMAR — The One Way Festival will be from 1 to 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 21, at Robbins Island in Willmar. The day of Christian unity will feature live music, food and a ribfest with proceeds going to ATLAS, The Fortress and PraiseLive. Tickets are $10 in advance and $15 at the gate, ages 8 and under admitted free, available at . Ribs and food sold separately.
