WILLMAR — First Presbyterian Church in Willmar celebrated its 150th anniversary in August 2020. There was a story about the history of the church in the Aug. 8, 2020, edition of the West Central Tribune. Due to COVID-19, the celebration was delayed until this year.

The church is planning a “Heart of Willmar 150 Celebration” from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sept. 11 to bring children and families downtown. The Jolly Pops will give an outdoor concert of children’s songs as well as songs that adults could relate to at 11 a.m. There will be a kids' art tent, balloon creations, bounce house and kids' games in the parking lot and street. The replica of the William Crooks Steam Locomotive made by Bob Anderson and other church volunteers will be on display and children can ride the wooden ponies often featured in the Holidaze parade. Food vendors will be on hand.

The City Auditorium has been reserved for the concert in case of bad weather.

Also on Sept. 11, Main Street Willmar will have its annual Touch-a-Truck event, a Miles for Mentors kids run will take place downtown and a “Belonging Begins With Us” event will be at Selvig Park from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.
