WILLMAR -- Justin Lee Gomez, 22, of Willmar, was sentenced Wednesday to 27 months in prison and a $250 fine on a felony charge of second-degree assault for assaulting a woman last October.

As part of a plea agreement in Kandiyohi County District Court, four additional felony charges of criminal sexual conduct, domestic assault by strangulation, domestic assault and terroristic threats, plus a gross misdemeanor for child endangerment, were dismissed. Gomez was given credit for 256 days already served in jail and ordered to register as a predatory offender.

The charges were filed after Willmar police were called Oct. 10 to an apartment in the southeast quadrant of the city. A woman there reported she had been assaulted by Gomez, with whom she shares three children. She had visible injuries to her face and neck. She said that Gomez had hit, punched and strangled her and kept her in a bedroom for two hours as he threatened her life. He had also pushed her down as she held a small child.

The woman also reported being sexually assaulted.

The woman was eventually able to get away from Gomez, who had also fled the apartment. He was located and arrested.
