NEW LONDON -- The man whose body was found Tuesday in the Crow River in New London lived nearby, according to Kandiyohi County Sheriff Dan Hartog.

Local citizens had previously observed Paul Lindberg, 53, of New London, on the riverbank watching the construction work on the new dam, Hartog said.

Lindberg's identity was released by the sheriff on Wednesday. His body was discovered Tuesday by a construction worker, just north of the new dam construction site.

Lindberg was known to be living in the community, but it's unknown whether he was employed. "This is not a case where he's a stranger to the area," Hartog said.

The Sheriff's Office is still waiting for results of an autopsy from the Anoka County Medical Examiner's office. Those results could be released within a few days to a week. Work on the new dam over the Crow River resumed Tuesday afternoon.
