WILLMAR — Downtown business owners are being asked by Willmar Main Street to attend a feedback session with the Willmar Police Department to discuss safety initiatives at 5:30 p.m. Aug. 12 at the Barn Theatre.

“The Police Department has been great at listening to stories of incidents that have happened recently,” Willmar City Planner Sarah Swedburg wrote via email. “And we hope this can be a productive time to talk about solutions and next steps so downtown can continue to grow as a place that people want to gather and spend time at.”

According to Swedburg, the purpose of the meeting is to gather downtown property owners and businesses to have a conversation with the police about downtown safety.

“The Willmar Main Street program, and efforts such as these downtown property owner meetings, only exist and grow because of the collective interest of the community. We continue to hold these meetings to encourage our downtown property and business owners to have a place to receive updates from the program and provide input in our continued direction of work,” Swedburg wrote. “We have been very pleased with attendance in the past, and despite participation looking a little different this time around, we expect nothing less from this conversation.”

Participants are encouraged to attend as they feel comfortable, either virtually or in person at the Barn Theatre where social distancing will be practiced.
