As of Thursday, Dec. 15, 2005, at least 2,153 members of the U.S. military have died since the beginning of the Iraq war in March 2003, according to an Associated Press count. At least 1,691 died as a result of hostile action, according to the military's numbers. The figures include five military civilians.

The AP count is two fewer than the Defense Department's tally, last updated at 10 a.m. EST Thursday.

The British military has reported 98 deaths; Italy, 27; Ukraine, 18; Poland, 17; Bulgaria, 13; Spain, 11; Slovakia, three; Denmark, El Salvador, Estonia, Netherlands, Thailand, two each; Hungary, Kazakhstan, Latvia one death each.

Since May 1, 2003, when President Bush declared that major combat operations in Iraq had ended, 2,014 U.S. military members have died, according to AP's count. That includes at least 1,582 deaths resulting from hostile action, according to the military's numbers.

- Four soldiers killed Tuesday when a roadside bomb exploded near their vehicle northwest of Baghdad; assigned to the Army's 2nd Battalion, 70th Armor, 3rd Brigade, Fort Riley, Kan.

- Army Spc. Peter J. Navarro, 20, Wildwood, Mo.

- Army Staff Sgt. Michael S. Zyla, 32, Elgin, Ore.

- Army Sgt. Brian C. Karim, 22, Talcott, W. Va.

- Army Spc. James C. Kesinger, 32, Pharr, Texas.

- Marine Staff Sgt. Kenneth B. Pospisil, 35, Andover, Minn.; killed Wednesday by an explosive near Ramadi, Iraq; assigned to 8th Engineer Support Battalion, 2nd Marine Logistics Group, II Marine Expeditionary Force, Camp Lejeune, N.C.

-- Marine Cpl. Michael B. Presley, 21, Batesville, Miss.; died Wednesday at Landstuhl Regional Medical Center in Germany of wounds from a car bombing Monday in Fallujah, Iraq; assigned to 2nd Combat Engineer Battalion, 2nd Marine Division, II Marine Expeditionary Force, Camp Lejeune, N.C.
