Child injured in construction zone crash on Highway 212
STONY RUN TOWNSHIP – A 7-year old boy from Weslaco, Texas was seriously injured in a rear-end accident in a construction zone Wednesday morning on U.S. Highway 212 between Montevideo and Granite Falls. Jared David Trevino suffered life-threatening injuries in the crash and was transported to North Memorial Hospital in Robbinsdale, the Minnesota State Patrol reported.
Also injured in the crash with non-life threatening injuries, and taken to Granite Falls Hospital, was Scott Wade Powell, 55, of Sioux Falls, South Dakota, Neftali Emanuel Lagunas, 21, of Marshall and Israel Eleazar Quintilla, 15. Quintilla’s city of origin was reported unknown.
According to the preliminary report, a 2013 Freightliner truck, driven by Powell, was eastbound on Highway 212 and stopped, waiting for one-lane traffic in the work zone. Lagunas, the driver of a 2000 Chevy pickup did not see the Freightliner truck was at a complete stop and rear-ended it in the accident reported at 10:39 a.m. Wednesday.
Everyone was wearing their seatbelt, according to the State Patrol.
Also responding Wednesday were Granite Falls police, fire and ambulance; the Yellow Medicine County Sheriff's Office; North Air Care; and the state Department of Transportation.
