Woman injured in head-on crash near Willmar

WILLMAR – A head-on crash near Willmar early Thursday morning injured an 18-year-old woman from Hutchinson.

The incident was reported at 12:28 a.m. on U.S. Highway 12 and 45th Street, east of Willmar.

According to the State Patrol, a 2016 Dodge Ram pickup pulling a trailer, driven by David John Mavencamp, 52, of Monticello, was going east on Highway 12 when it crossed the centerline into westbound traffic.

A 2012 Chevy Cruze, driven by Megan Lynn Gertgen, 18, of Hutchinson, was going west on Highway 12 and went into the eastbound lane in an attempt to avoid the collision, according to the State Patrol.

The vehicles collided in the eastbound lane.

Gertgen was taken to Rice Memorial Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Mavencamp was not injured.

Roads were dry and alcohol was not a factor in the crash, according to the State Patrol. Both drivers were wearing seatbelts.

The Kandiyohi County Sheriff’s Department and Willmar Ambulance also responded to the scene.
