ATWATER – A 17-year-old male from Willmar was seriously injured Saturday afternoon in a motorcycle crash on the southern city limits of Atwater.
According to a news release from Kandiyohi County Sheriff’s Sgt. Todd Neumann, witnesses reported seeing a motorcycle southbound on Kandiyohi County Road 2 approaching the Atwater city limits when it began to wobble. The driver lost control, laid the motorcycle down and slid off the roadway. Once in the ditch, the motorcycle collided with a traffic sign and came to rest in the bottom of the ditch.
The driver, who was not identified in the news release, was transported by ambulance to Rice Memorial Hospital in Willmar with serious injuries. He was reported to have been wearing a helmet, according to the release. The motorcycle, a 2012 Yamaha FZ8, was totaled in the crash.
Kandiyohi County sheriff's deputies were assisted by the Atwater Police Department, Atwater Fire Department and the Atwater Ambulance Service. The one-vehicle crash was reported at 2:20 p.m. Saturday.
