ROCK RAPIDS, Iowa — A Lyon County Sheriff's Office deputy died Tuesday, Aug. 13, as a result of a Friday crash, the sheriff's office reported in a Facebook post Tuesday afternoon.

Deputy Stephanie Schreurs, a 24-year law enforcement veteran, was involved in a single-car crash early Aug. 9 on Lyon County K52 just south of 160th Street in Rock Rapids in northwestern Iowa. She was flown by air ambulance to Sioux Falls, S.D., for her injuries.

The sheriff's office had previously reported in a press release that a preliminary investigation showed that Schreurs was operating a 2018 Ford Explorer Police SUV northbound in non-emergency status on Lyon County K52 and entered a sharp curve to the right. The SUV left the roadway to the left, entered the ditch, vaulted a private driveway and rolled. The SUV came to rest on the driver's side on the gravel driveway.

The crash remains under investigation by the Iowa State Patrol. A technical collision investigation is being completed by the Iowa State Patrol.

Tuesday's Lyon County Sheriff's Office Facebook post also noted that Schreurs' family is requesting privacy, and that a memorial fund has been established in her honor at Security Savings Bank in Larchwood, Iowa. This is the only official memorial fund in existence, the post adds.
