GRANITE FALLS — Granite Falls fire department personnel used a rescue boat to aid a boater whose motor had quit on him in the Minnesota River downstream of Memorial Park in Granite Falls at 1:37 p.m. on Friday.

Andrew Hanson, 24, called for help after reporting that his boat was disabled. He was holding on to a tree branch, but was unable to get the boat to shore, the Yellow Medicine Sheriff's Office reported.

The Granite Falls Fire Department, Ambulance, Police and Yellow Medicine Sheriff's Office responded.

Fire department personnel located the boater with the rescue boat and returned him to the landing at Memorial Park. He was not injured. Granite Falls firemen were able to retrieve the boat and return it to him.
