House fire leaves 7 homeless in Renville County
MORTON — A fire Sunday afternoon heavily damaged a house in Morton and left all seven residents homeless.
The fire was reported at 4:25 p.m. in the 300 block of Walnut Drive North.
According to a news release from the Renville County Sheriff's Office, the caller reported heavy smoke and flames coming from the basement of the house.
When fire crews arrived on scene, they found an active fire in the basement ceiling. The fire caused significant damage to the basement as well as the rest of the house due to the amount of smoke.
All seven residents were able to safely get outside, but the home was too heavily damaged for them to stay there. The American Red Cross assisted with the occupants with housing.
The Morton Fire Department, Morton MRU, Franklin Fire Department and Franklin Ambulance responded to the scene.
WILLMAR — A woman in the 800 block of Sixth Street Southeast filed a police report at 12:15 p.m. Sunday that she had been beaten up by a man the previous evening.
WILLMAR — A 27-year old woman was arrested Friday night in the 200 block of 18th Street Northwest on charges of assault in the fifth degree and domestic assault by strangulation. She is being held in the Kandiyohi County Jail pending a court appearance.
ATWATER — An individual was arrested at 10:37 a.m. Sunday in the 400 block of Main Street North on several charges, including possession of drug paraphernalia, driving after revocation and for violations of a conditional release.
SPICER — The driver of a Subaru that crashed into a ditch Friday was arrested for driving while impaired by the State Patrol. The incident was reported at 11:30 p.m. on U.S. Highway 71 and 122nd Avenue Northeast.
Fish house incident
LAKE LILLIAN — A report was filed at 7:54 p.m. Saturday that the driver of a Ford truck was driving recklessly on Big Kandiyohi Lake and almost hit a number of fish houses. The driver then reportedly began yelling and screaming at people. The suspect was not located.
HAWICK — Theft of “underwear and alcohol” was reported at 5:10 p.m. Saturday from the 13000 block of 180th Avenue Northeast.
WILLMAR — Two reports of graffiti were filed Friday. One incident was reported at 4:36 p.m. in the 500 block of Benson Avenue Southwest and the other was reported at 4:38 p.m. in the 200 block of Sixth Street Southwest.
