KIMBALL — The Minnesota State Patrol released the identity of the man who died in a two-vehicle crash Wednesday evening on state Highway 15 near Kimball.

Donald Bernard Heid, 67, of Kimball, was killed in the crash.

The driver of the other vehicle, Ricky Allen Freitag, 57, of Rice, suffered non-life threatening injuries and was transported to CentraCare St. Cloud Hospital. The Minnesota State Patrol report said alcohol was involved in regards to Freitag.

Both Heid and Freitag were wearing seat belts.

According to the State Patrol report, a 2018 Ford F-150 pickup driven by Freitag was headed north on Highway 15 when it hit a patch of ice. Heid, driving a 2003 Buick Regal, was headed south on Highway 15 when the two vehicles made contact.

Road conditions were snowy and icy at the time of the crash.

Assisting were the Stearns County Sheriff's Office, Kimball Police Department, Kimball Fire and Rescue and Mayo Ambulance.
