ACGC earns state wrestling trip

HOWARD LAKE -- Defending Class A state wrestling champion Atwater-Cosmos-Grove City successfully defended its Section 5A crown Friday night with a 43-19 victory over Paynesville.

The Falcons beat Osakis 32-27 in the semifinals, while Paynesville knocked off Browerville 45-21.

ACGC, ranked No. 5 in the latest Guillotine poll, will open at state against unranked Frazee on Feb. 28 at 7 p.m. at Xcel Energy Center in St. Paul.

Championship

ACGC 43, Paynesville 19

The Falcons got pins from Jeremy Anderson at 119 pounds, Scott Litzau at 135, Nic Leither at 189 and Jake Carlson at 285.

Paynesville had two pins; Michael Doom at 160 and Cory Spanier at 215.

Nic Leither's decision at 189 pounds proved to be the match-clincher for the Falcons as Osakis won the final two bouts by pin. Osakis was hurt by giving up a forfeit at 171 pounds.

Jeremy Anderson had a pin at 119 pounds for ACGC.
