Update 1:15 a.m.
GROVE CITY - For the first time since 2005, voters in the Atwater-Cosmos-Grove City School District approved an operating levy.

The referendum was passed Wednesday by a 103 vote margin with 1,136 yes votes and 1,033 no votes.

"Hallelujah," said Dr. Keith Redfield, interim superintendent, who reported the results shortly before 1 a.m.

"I'm happy for the kids and I'm happy for the families with kids in school. They needed this in the worst way."

The $1,075 per pupil unit levy will generate approximately $437,000 in new revenue for the financially struggling district, which has been in statutory operating debt since 2005.

The levy will be in place for seven years.
