MARSHALL - Affiliated Community Medical Center broke ground on a planned new ambulatory surgery center in Marshall on Monday, part of an effort to provide cost-effective outpatient surgical services for area residents.

A group of clinic administrators and providers gathered to celebrate the groundbreaking for the new center.

The new 10,000-square foot ACMC Marshall Surgery Center will include two operating suites, two endoscopic suites, pre- and post-operative recovery areas, waiting rooms, consultation areas and support space.

The facility will support a variety of same-day procedures in multiple specialties. Cases referred to ambulatory surgery centers are generally under 90 minutes with total visit times of less than four hours.

The new surgery center will be located on the northeast corner of the ACMC-Marshall clinic at 1521 Carlson Street. The construction should take approximately one year, with an estimated completion in the fall of 2014.
