WILLMAR - Dr. Cindy Firkins Smith has been chosen as the new president and chief executive officer of Affiliated Community Medical Centers.
Smith will assume her duties in January 2016, ACMC announced in a news release. Dr. Ronald Holmgren, who has been president and CEO of the regional multi-specialty health system for 15 years, plans to retire at the end of December.
Smith, of Spicer, has practiced dermatology and dermatologic surgery at ACMC for 25 years, and is also a clinical professor in the University of Minnesota’s Department of Dermatology.
In 2014 Gov. Mark Dayton appointed her to the Blue Ribbon Commission on the University of Minnesota Medical School. She has served as president of the Minnesota Medical Association, and currently serves as an alternate delegate for the American Medical Association.
This past year Smith was awarded the Distinguished Alumni Achievement Award by her undergraduate alma mater, Minnesota State University, Mankato. This month she was also named Top Dermatology Doctor for the third consecutive year by Mpls. St. Paul Magazine’s annual listing of top doctors.
She earned her bachelor’s degree from Mankato State University, and earned her medical degree from the University of Minnesota. She completed her transitional internship at Hennepin County Medical Center and her dermatology residency with the University of Minnesota.
