CHOKIO -- Albert Erwyn 'Ervy' Nelson, 87, of Chokio died Tuesday at the St. Cloud Hospital in St. Cloud.
The service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Chokio. Burial will be at Summit Cemetery in Morris. Military rites will be provided by the Chokio American Legion.
Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Chokio and one hour prior to the service at the church. Arrangements are by the Pedersen Funeral Home in Morris.
He was born March 1, 1921, in Graceville to Albert and Esther (Ostlund) Nelson. He grew up in Chokio, where he went to school and graduated in 1940 from the Chokio High School. Then he studied business at Dunwoody Institute in Minneapolis. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II and was stationed in the Panama Canal Zone. He was a administrative specialist and reached the rank of petty officer second class.
He married Maxine Winter on Nov. 19, 1943, in Minneapolis. They lived a short time in New York City, then moved to Chokio where they owned and operated Nelson's Grocery Store. They retired in 1991.

He was a member of Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Chokio, where he served on the church board. He was also a member of the Chokio American Legion and the Chokio School Board.
He is survived by his wife; five children: Nancy (and Dean) Boldenow of Chokio, Jon (and Pat) Nelson of North Mankato, Christine (and James) Deike of Madison Lake, Beth (and Robert) Moore of Glenwood and Jay (and Lynn) Nelson of Morris; 12 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by one sister and two brothers.
