BELGRADE -- Albert Hendrick Verhoeff, 72, of Belgrade died Friday at his home in Belgrade.

The service is at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Grace Lutheran Church in Belgrade. Burial will be in the Methodist Cemetery in Belgrade.

Visitation is from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the Johnson Funeral Home in Belgrade and for one hour prior to the service at the church.

He was born Nov. 11, 1933, in Hickman, Neb., to Henry and Frances (Strike) Verhoeff. The family moved in 1942 to the Belgrade and Brooten area where he grew up. He graduated from Brooten High School in 1952. He then entered the United States Marine Corps, serving until 1955.

On Nov. 27, 1954, he married Elaine Jensen in Belgrade. In 1956 they moved to Minneapolis where he attended the Minnesota School of Business. They moved to Willmar in 1958 for a short time before settling in Crow River Township. He worked in construction for Duininck Brothers from 1958 to 1976 and as an insurance agent from 1976 to 1989. He also maintained a hobby farm until 1998 and did tax preparations until he retired in 2000. His wife preceded him in death in 2004.

He was a member of Grace Lutheran Church, charter life member of the Belgrade VFW, and a member of the Belgrade Commercial Club and Belgrade Lions Club.

He is survived by two sons: Calvin Verhoeff of Wood, S.D., and Gary Verhoeff of St. Cloud; two daughters: Doreen Kiken of Sturgeon Bay, Wis., and Barbara Jensen of Brooten; six grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; a brother: Henry (and Katherine) Verhoeff of Ozark, Ala., and a sister: Renee F. Stern of Brooten.

He was preceded in death by his wife; and a son, Forrest.
