GRANITE FALLS -- Alexandria edged Willmar 3-2 in last weekend's West Central Conference championship at Granite Falls Bowling Center to advance to the state tournament.
Willmar, which was on top of the conference standings for the majority of the season, had a first-round bye before upending Montevideo 3-2 to reach the final. Alexandria was the top seed while Willmar was No. 2.
Willmar does, however, have a chance to qualify for the state tournament. The 16 conference runner-ups from across the state will meet in the Minnesota Invitational Tournament this Saturday in Alexandria. The top two finishers will then round out the 18-team field for the state tournament, which is Dec. 3 at the Southtown Bowl in Bloomington.
Willmar's Tom Pattison and Jeremy Teeuwen were named to the all-conference team while Teeuwen was selected as the conference's MVP.
