SPICER -- You could say, Willmar VFW I threw this one away, along with the season.
Four throwing errors in the first three innings made it easy for Alexandria I, which ended Willmar's post-season run on Monday, 6-1, at Green Lake Diamond.
As the District 5 champion, Alexandria I advances to the VFW state tournament. Willmar won this title a year ago but returned only two players from that team.
Alexandria beat Willmar for the third time this year with Reid Johnson pitching a smooth four-hitter.
Johnson got solid play from his fielders while walking one and fanning two.

Meanwhile, Willmar pitcher Tyler Brower and his teammates had a rough evening. Leadoff Paul Giroux singled and took third on an overthrow, then scored on a sacrifice fly.
Alexandria scored three runs in the third, needing only one hit and a costly throwing error.
Jacob Damhof doubled and scored on an infield error in the fifth for Willmar's lone run. Damhoff had two hits.
Willmar had some nice catches in the outfield, including Sam Spaulding's over the shoulder catch at the centerfield wall of Dalton Leuschke's sacrifice fly in the first.
Willmar, which was coming out of the loser's bracket and needed to win two last night, ends the campaign 15-7.
