As the sun sets Wednesday, sun dogs can be seen in the western sky over Willmar. According to sciencedaily.com, a sun dog is a relatively common atmospheric optical phenomenon associated with the reflection of sunlight by small ice crystals that make up cirrus or cirrostratus (or thin) clouds that cover the entire sky.
