PIERRE S.D. -- Allen Stanley Fladeboe, 92, of Pierre, S.D., died on Jan. 28.

The service was held on Feb. 2, at Lutheran Memorial Church in Pierre, S.D. Burial took place at Riverside Cemetery in Pierre, S.D.

He was born on Sept. 14, 1915, in Willmar to Martin and Anna (Skare) Fladeboe. He attended school in Kandiyohi County and graduated from Willmar High School. He went on to graduate from Dunwoody Technical Institute and finished his civil engineering education through extension schools. During World War II, he served in the Army Corps of Engineers, as a civilian construction engineer. He spent two years working on the ALCAN Highway in Alaska, British Columbia, Alberta and the Yukon Territory. He also worked for a year on the Inter-American Highway in Guatemala and El Salvador.

He married Gertrude Heimdahl on July 7, 1941, in Willmar. He was a Licensed Professional Engineer and worked as a civil engineer for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. Then he worked for the State of South Dakota Highway Department.

He was a member of the Kiwanis Club, Toastmasters International, Lutheran Memorial Church, the Sons of Norway, and the South Dakota Engineering Society. He was also an ALCAN Highway Alumni.

He is survived by two sons: Jan Fladeboe of Charlottesville, Va., and Jason Fladeboe of Vermillion, S.D.; and three grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife and one son, Jeffrey Fladeboe.
