APPLETON -- Alma Mattison Anderson, 87, of Appleton died Friday at the Appleton Nursing Home.
The service will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Zion Lutheran Church in Appleton. Burial will be at the Appleton City Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. today at the church, and for one hour prior to the service at the church on Wednesday. Arrangements are with Zniewski Funeral Home-Vaala Chapel in Appleton.
She was born June 14, 1919, in Borup to Andrew and Clara Midthune. She grew up in the Red River Valley and graduated from high school in 1935. She graduated from Concordia College in Moorhead in 1939 with a bachelor's degree in chemistry. She taught chemistry, physics, and physical education in Fertile for three years.

She married Earl R. Anderson in July of 1942 in Borup. She taught in Borup, was principal, and also lived in Oregon, California, and Arizona. She worked at Honeywell in Minneapolis and as a chemist in San Francisco. They returned to Borup and taught school. They moved to Moorhead in 1948 and then to Appleton in 1957. She taught chemistry, biology, physical education, reading, and mathematics in Appleton. She retired and spent summers at Battle Lake and winters in Arizona. Earl died in 1987.
She was a member of Zion Lutheran Church, the American Legion Auxiliary, and bridge and birthday clubs.
She is survived by five children: Earl Jr., Dennis, Gail, Linda, Laurie; seven grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and one brother: Neil Midthune.
She was preceded in death by her husband, one great-grandson and one brother.
