GRANITE FALLS -- Alvin J. "Al" Arneson, 81, of Granite Falls died Monday at the Granite Falls Municipal Hospital.
The service will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at St. Andrew Catholic Church in Granite Falls. Burial, with military honors, will be at the church cemetery.
Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. today, with a prayer service at 6:30, at the church. Arrangements are by Wing-Bain Funeral Home of Granite Falls.
He was born July 12, 1926, in Eldred to Arnie and Josie (Gordon) Arneson. He attended school in Eldred. He served in the United States Merchant Marines from 1941 to 1945 during World War II.
He married Marion M. Huot on Oct. 6, 1947, in Dorothy. He owned a service station in Eldred for several years. They moved to Granite Falls in 1960. He owned and operated A.J. Arneson Wholesale Beverage Company until his retirement in 1978. He also was in business with his son, Allen, in Sleepy Eye for 10 years.

He is survived by his wife; his children: Allen (and RaeAnn) Arneson of Sleepy Eye, Cheryl (and Frank) Homme of Granite Falls, and Lana Edman of Granite Falls; grandchildren; and great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a son: Dean; son-in-law: Butch Edman; twin grandchildren; and one brother.
