REGAL -- Kyle Knott and Mike Jeseritz homered to give Raymond a 10-2 win over Regal in Cornbelt League action Sunday.

Ahead 5-2 entering the seventh inning, Knott hit a three-run shot and Jeseritz followed with a two-run homer in the eighth.

The loss puts Regal (5-9, 10-10) into a sudden-death playoff game for the final spot in the Cornbelt North with Paynesville. The teams will battle at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday in Paynesville, with the winner to face the No. 1 seed, Norway Lake-Sunburg, in the league playoffs. Raymond (13-2, 21-10) is the top seed in the South.

Knott finished with three hits and four RBI. Jeseritz, Jed Nelson and Mike Kragenbring had two hits each.

Chris Beier and Chris Rohe had two hits each for Regal.


Ron Hoekstra pitched six innings for the win. He allowed two runs on seventh hits.

Bird Island's Gregg Helin had a no-hitter against Sacred Heart through the first seven innings, then gave up a walk and a hit to start the eighth and was pulled for Eric Gass.


Helin was charged with two runs. He struck out seven and walked six to lead the Islanders (10-5, 15-7) to their seventh win in a row.

Stephen Engelmann went 4-for-5 with a triple and three RBI to lead Bird Island. Helin had three hits.

Starbuck scored the tying run with two outs in the bottom of the ninth inning when Dan Leritz uncorcked a wild pitch on an 0-2 count. He then recorded a strikeout on the next pitch.

Starbuck then won the game in the bottom of the 10th when Tyler Topp doubled, moved to third on Zach Lagred's sacrifice bunt and scored on Kit Pennie's sacrifice fly.

Pennie earned the win with one inning of relief. Jim Walker pitched the first nine innings.
